Why Spring Is the Best Time to Buy Original Art in Vancouver

March 10, 2026 · Kurbatoff Gallery

There is something about the shift in seasons that makes people look at the spaces they live in with fresh eyes. As the days get longer and light pours back into our homes and offices, many of us feel the pull to bring something new and meaningful into those spaces. For art lovers and first-time collectors alike, spring is the perfect moment to discover an original work of art.

At Kurbatoff Gallery, we are welcoming the season with new works from our roster of over thirty contemporary Canadian artists. Whether you are drawn to bold abstracts, serene West Coast landscapes, expressive figurative painting, or striking sculpture, our collection right now is one of the most diverse we have ever presented.

What Makes Original Art Worth It

A print or a poster fills a wall. An original painting transforms a room. There is a presence to a one-of-a-kind artwork — the texture of the brushstrokes, the depth of colour, the knowledge that an artist put weeks or months of thought and skill into this single piece — that no reproduction can replicate. Owning original art is not just decorating; it is choosing to live with something that has a story, a voice, and a soul.

And unlike mass-produced decor, original art holds and often increases in value over time. Many of our collectors started with a single painting that spoke to them and have since built meaningful collections they are proud to share with family and friends.

Art for Every Budget

One of the most common misconceptions about commercial galleries is that everything is out of reach. At Kurbatoff Gallery, we carry works at a wide range of price points. Smaller paintings and works on paper offer an accessible entry point for new collectors, while larger statement pieces by established artists are available for those ready to invest in a signature work. We are always happy to have an honest conversation about budget — there is no pressure, and no question is too basic.

A Gallery That Feels Like Home

Walking into a gallery should feel exciting, not intimidating. On South Granville Gallery Row, Kurbatoff Gallery has been a welcoming space since 2002. Our staff knows every artist and every piece in the gallery, and we love sharing the stories behind the work. Whether you have been collecting for decades or have never set foot in a gallery before, you will feel at home here.

We also understand that buying art is personal. That is why we offer consultations to help you find a piece that fits your space, your style, and your life. We can show you how a work will look in your home, arrange delivery and professional installation anywhere in Greater Vancouver, and ship worldwide for collectors outside British Columbia.

What You Will Find This Spring

Our spring collection features new works across every style and medium we represent. Here is a sampling of what is on our walls right now:

Landscapes and seascapes — from the misty trails of British Columbia's interior to the dramatic coastlines of Vancouver Island, our landscape painters capture the raw beauty of the Canadian West Coast in ways that bring the outdoors into your living room. Artists like Sandra Harris, Gina Sarro, and Felice Mazzoni each offer a unique perspective on the natural world.

Abstract and contemporary — for those who prefer colour, energy, and movement, artists like Chris Charlebois, Eva Kolacz, and Stephanie Fehrenbach create bold, expressive works that become the focal point of any room.

Figurative and realist worksDonna Baspaly, Kathy Traeger, and Soizick Meister bring the human experience to life through painting, each with a distinctive approach that invites you to look closer.

SculptureAndrew Benyei and Reinhard Skoracki create three-dimensional works that add an entirely different dimension to a collection, from tabletop pieces to larger installations.
